Upper Back Pain Treatments

I had Radiation and Chemotherapy in 2004, and I got a lot of pain & stiffness in my up back, neck and shoulders
Soon after I finished treatment in 2004, in the early to mid 2005 I started getting really bad neck, back and shoulder pain. The stiffness I felt towards the end of 2004 which causes me to have limited movement with my neck and shoulders, I also get a lot of cramps in my neck that hurt like hell but go away after a few minutes. I can sit still and can feel like a muscle in my shoulder area to jump like crazy, happens in my upper back and neck. These jumps are not a ordinary twitch once in a while, they are really big nerver or muslce jumps. It feels like as if muscle, tissue, tendence, etc.. are so tight and stiff that they flip out from time to time, I could be fine one day with no jumping on my neck or shoulders, but then there are days that my upper back, shoulders and neck bug out like crazy. The muscles and tissues are so tight and rough in my neck its noticable just looking at my neck, once you touch my neck it feels like your touch bones but its all muscle. I need help, advice?
The first thoughts that occur to me are that you may have some scarring internally from Radiation damage, possibly in your lungs (the upper lobes that may have been affected by your radiation treatment). I have seen this happen in a patient that had radiation and surgery, and her chronic pain varied according to barometric pressure (I doubt she would have figured this out but for the barometer she kept right next to her clock).
In other words, there may be some external trigger for these twitches.
Sometimes cramping like that is as simple as a mineral imbalance, usually involving calcium and magnesium. Those are key minerals involved in muscular contraction and relaxation. I use mineral supplements/mineral rich foods in my own household for those who experience cramping.
Sometimes, as in the case of this particular patient, the barometric pressure was the trigger.
Your state of hydration can also set off these sorts of symptoms. I know of one patient who does vary greatly in hydration status and is always on the low side…symptoms seem to be aggravated when more dehydrated (used Tanita scale that measures hydration as well as weight and body fat and lean body mass). This patient also had documented heavy metal toxicity per IV chelation challenge lab tests.
Which leads us to the possibility that your body has not cleared your chemotherapy medications and/or other toxins that likely contributed to your condition in the first place. Muscular twitching is a fairly common side effect of chronic toxicity of a variety of different toxins, whether in the “heavy metal” group, or pesticides and other medications and chemicals that act on the central nervous system. As a heavy metal patient, myself, I go through phases of twitching that sometimes seem to indicate the need to do another chelation, and some occurred AFTER chelation (too many minerals pulled from my system). I converted to half-doses of the standard IV chelation and continued my immediate re-mineralization supplements or smoothies following each session to relieve that problem of twitches AFTER chelation. Removing toxic residue from drugs and environmental toxins is a process, since the body can’t dump it all at once without damaging the body severely. Some people are less able to cope with heavy metals and toxins than others.
In my experience, it is rare for these sort so symptoms to go away with just one intervention, so if you manage to get rid of it quickly, count your blessings! On the other hand, I’ve seen some pretty amazing transformations, personally, based on lifestyle changes. And of course, I have read about many, many kinds of healings from many, many kinds of strategies.
One of the most famous was Norman Cousins, who suffered from devastating neurological problem that doctors could not figure out. He decided that laughter would be his therapy of choice and watched lots of funny movies while bedridden, and laughed a lot. He got better, completely better. There is a lot of evidence that positive emotions improve health and negative ones can actually lead to more illness and shortened lifespan. Of all the things I would recommend, this “pill” sounds like the easiest, the most fun, and one that is clearly an important part of healing. Forgiving absolutely everyone for anything they have ever done to you will fast-track your success.
Laughter also increases oxygenation, and waste exits the body through Carbon Dioxide and is cleansed by the intake of Oxygen. For your situation I would recommend a breathing and stretching regimen every day for a minimum of 15 minutes. That is all it took another man to heal yet another mysterious disease that baffled doctors. He published a dvd of his stretching exercises, and they are good, but they don’t let you follow him through a program. I recommend programs like Life Lift which incorporate a relaxing breathing technique with other forms of exercise, including a unique one with reflexology. Your level of fitness and ability would dictate the program(s) that would be right for you. Yoga deep breathing along with yoga moves that work within your body’s capabilities would be another excellent choice. People who do breath-based work almost universally report increased sense of well-being, clarity of mind, energy and relaxation. If they have extra body-fat, they often lose it…sometimes quickly.
Drinking enough pure water is very, very important to absolutely every system for most people (except those who eat so many raw fruits and vegetables that they don’t need any extra water….). Without water, you can liberate toxins that simply recirculate in your body and find a new home (and create new symptoms sooner or later). Water helps the toxins get where they need to go for elimination through the skin (sweating), breath (carrying them to the lungs for elimination there), bowels (preventing constipation/retention), and of course the kidneys. Try to drink 16 ounces within 2 hours of wakeup, and sip your standard 1 oz per kg (or per 2 lbs) of weight, throughout the day. If you aren’t used to drinking that much, start slow and work up, or you’ll waste a lot of time running to the bathroom!
Massage, particularly “lymphatic massage” that focusses on helping your body eliminate the toxins that tend to collect in the lymphatic system (our body’s “garbage disposal system”) would be a wonderful, albeit much more expensive, option. If you can afford it, this could be really, really helpful. Again, with this approach you are going to be liberating lots of toxins and need to by hydrated so they can exit the body. A good massage therapist can help relax those knots in your neck and shoulders.
Having intake of appropriate minerals is key. It would be very wise to do your research on minerals, as some companies do an excellent job, and others sell really old supplements that have been sitting in hot warehouses for years. In the latrine industry, I am told, one of the most common things to find in portapotties are undigested pills. Sorry, that was gross, but I want to get my point across. Do your research! Or, if you have access to a high-power blender that can take spinach, romaine lettuce, kale leaves, etc, into liquid, try making fresh fruit smoothies to which you add a few green leaves. You will be getting a much more bioavailable and broader range of minerals and other nutrients. A study done on people who drank a quart of “green” smoothie daily for 30 days showed many positive results including increased hydrochloric acid in the stomach and improved digestion, energy, improvement in muscle cramping problems and many more. Some green leaves are outstandingly high in calcium, but they come with a balanced complement of minerals. Some MLM companies do offer excellent options, and show that their supplements are superior at dissolving, etc.
An IV chelation challenge to identify heavy metal and other toxins can help you rule out those problems. These treatments, while invaluable, do suck “good” minerals along with the “bad” so you will want to restock on minerals after every treatment.
If you do have toxins, a program of IV chelation can help you. Those who cannot afford this or who do not have access to it often choose some of the increasingly available alternatives, and report good results. Of these, Biochelat has had clinical studies showing its efficacy and safety, even in children. Biochelat is an oral form of an accepted IV chelator, EDTA. Acupeds foot pads applied to the feet draw something nasty colored out of the body, apparently until the body has no toxins left. Taking chlorella, kelp and cilantro are known, natural binders of certain heavy metals and toxins. Cilantro can be eaten, but also comes in tincture form. Chelating suppositories are also available. Using a far infrared sauna (not widely available) has been shown to release far more toxins than ordinary saunas, via sweat. Women have been using bodywraps for years to dissolve excess fat, and most formulations are geared to liberate toxins at the same time. Users report inch loss as well as increased relaxation and well-being. Some formulations can be applied to the skin, omitting the “wrapping” procedure, and still achieve results (Life Lift markets one of the these. There is a company that sells instructions on creating your own solutions for about $22 bucks, as well as the whole body-wrap thing. If you want that info, email me and I’ll dig it up for you).
Having used Miracle 2 soap as a detox bath, I can second the testimonies that when toxic chemicals are in your body, they will come out in your tub water when they bathe in Miracle 2. I’ve had some odd color changes in my tub water! Especially after coloring my hair…even though my hair doesn’t touch the water, the water turns brown like my hair dye! One woman who had gone through chemo/radiation (if I’m recalling correctly) had her bath water turn BLACK after her soak with water and Miracle 2. And she felt a lot better, so the story goes. That is just an internet testimonial, you understand, (as is mine), but hey, taking a bath seems pretty low risk! Google Miracle 2 and dig for a while…or email me and I’ll dig up my sources. OH, I think if you google Tennessee Power Company, that might be the site with the best selection of stories.
Whatever you do, become an expert on your body and on natural as well as standard medical treatments. You are suffering from what many wise physicians consider unnecessarily damaging treatments. I hope you don’t end up on the merry-go-round of medications that might suppress one symptoms while sprouting 5 more.
