Back Pain Relief Using the Drx9000 – How You Can Avoid Inversion Table Hangups

Have you ever had to endure — even for just a few moments — an annoying and often nagging pain along the side of your leg?

Then you may be suffering from sciatica which results from the sciatic nerve fibers being compressed. These nerve fibers run from the lower back in the lumbar region and through the sciatic foramen, behind the thigh and down your legs towards your feet.

The pain from sciatica can be varied: dull or sharp, tingling or burning, numb or accompanied by sporadic shocks of pain from the lumbar area going down the back of the thigh towards the feet. Any movement affecting the lower back such as sitting or even standing up can be painful.

Some people have found inversion table therapy to offer some lower back pain relief.

Inversion tables are specially designed tables that permit the patient to hang upside down or at an angle in an effort to alleviate back pain. Sometimes, gravity boots are used in conjunction with the inversion table. In a way, inversion therapy is similar to spinal traction or spinal decompression therapy.

Although traditional western doctors are sometimes reluctant to recommend inversion tables or inversion therapy for back pain, there are claims that it can be effective. The reasoning or principle behind the treatment is simple. Much of the back problems people have are the result of aging – in other words – living a long time with gravity constantly pulling down.

The idea behind inversion tables is that your weight is turned upside down (or at least angled) and by having your weight suspended from your lower body you are putting equal and opposite gravity pressure on the joints and spine. Therefore, in effect, you are doing the opposite of what happens naturally — the constant “weighing down” on the body by the pull of gravity when you are standing upright. This is intended to reverse or reduce the pressure on the discs between the vertebrae and help reduce the wearing down, or degeneration, of those discs.

Another type of spinal therapy device that is gaining popularity is the DRX9000. This machine is a kind of sophisticated traction table that employs a computer-controlled oscillating pull-and-release motion to relieve stress on the spine. According to the manufacturer Axiom Worldwide of Florida, this special oscillation motion prevents the body from going into spasm which is what can happen with traditional constant-force type systems like traction tables and inversion therapy systems.

Always consult with your doctor or medical professional to understand fully your healthcare options and associated risks.

Losing weight after microdiscectomy?

Curious if anyone has been through one and found a good way to lose weight after surgery. I’m all most 2 weeks post op and have been walking and trying to eat right. Doctor said i should lose 30 lbs. to bring me down to 130. However I’m short and a small frame so I’m going for 50 lbs. by the end of my 3 months it takes to heal. Before the surgery I lost 30 lbs in a little over a month because of lack of appetite it worked out nicely however I know it’s not the right way and I’m sure it’ll slow my healing process

You’re in the Diet & Fitness category, where people just try to lose weight by eating healthy and exercising.

Microdiscecto-something and post op and surgery questions should be posted in another health category, a medical one, with doctors (physical trainers and dieticians won’t help you much).

Cause Low Back Pain Disc

cause low back pain disc
Back pain. What could cause it?

For the past month, month and a half, I’ve been have lower back pain every day. I will get these sharp stabbing pains. Sometimes if my shirt lightly touches my lower back, I get this bad sore pain. It sometimes travels up my back, into my neck and gives me headaches. Sometimes when I bend over to pick something up my lower back cracks feels a better then when I straighten up again, here comes the pain only a lot worse.

I have 8% scoliosis in the lower mid section of my spine, but that wouldn’t cause my lower back to hurt as bad as it does every day.

I know my back pain can be the result of anything.
Slouching
Cracking it too much when I was younger
Arthritis
Degenerative disc disease

Anything.

Does anyon have an input to why I may have this much severe back pain all the time?

if you use a computer more than an hour a day, the ergonomics of your workstation could be doing it.

your bed mattress might not be supportive enough.

If you are male, you could be sitting on a fat wallet, which really causes back and leg problems – really.

and there is always the possibility that a very painful b ack is a symptom of angina.

you need a doc to sort this out. as soon as the doc’s office opens.

Leg Pain 8 days after microdiscectomy?

My girlfriend had an L4-L5 microdiscectomy about 9 days ago. Just yesterday she mentioned that she was scared because she was having leg pain sort of like before the surgery. Is this normal? I’m really scared that she may have reherniated, but I cant think of anything she could have done to do so.

She has her post op in a few days. Does anyone have any words of comfort in the meantime? Is this at all normal in the healing process of the Sciatic nerve?

Surgery For Herniated Disc Spine

04/24/2011

surgery for herniated disc spine
What's the worst that could happen if the surgery for a bulging disc herniation?

My mother had friends such as surgery, and she I had to do months of physical therapy because something happened to her spine during surgery … what happened and how it is?

To be 100% honest, any invasive procedure has its risks, especially surgery. Complications may occur during and after surgery, some more serious than others. The two worst case scenarios end? You can die or be paralyzed. Routine operations, such as to repair the disks, complications are very rare. Before of this procedure, the physician must pass on the risks, the procedure, the need for postoperative etc and asked to sign a "consent" which, as its name suggests, indicating that they are aware of the risks and give consent for the doctor performing the surgery. In the case of the mother of his friend, could have been a number of things, but without more information, might assume that due to the location of the operation, complications related to the spine and spinal cord followed. It is not uncommon for a doctor to prescribe a form of physical therapy after surgery, regardless of the success it was. My mother had the same procedure to repair a bulging disc two years ago and the operation was completely successful with no complications. After three months of physical therapy, she returned to normal, perhaps even better than it was before the disk problem. I also a friend who had the procedure after experiencing some type of injury at work. He also was a success and has returned to his gym rat lifestyle before without any problems. Discuss your concerns with your doctor. He / She must be more than happy to go with you. Good luck!

Back Pain Nerve Ablation

back pain nerve ablation
How do I convince my doctor to do this procedure?

My doctor was going to sever/ablate a nerve in my back for pain relief, but now he wants to implant a microchip there instead. I don’t WANT a microchip there. Even my GP said they can come mislodged over time and stop working. I want the nerve severed so I can be done with it. I’m especially worried because my coverage ends soon and there isn’t time to find a new doctor. How do I convince him to do the ablation of the nerve?

You are the ‘customer’. Tell him you discussed this microchip option with your family physician and you both decided this is not a good option for you and you would rather have the other procedure. He can’t force anything on you. He should just say okay and then schedule it.

Acute Low Back Pain Relief Tips in Urdu

Acute low back strain is not as uncommon as it seems to be. In fact, acute lower back pain is one of the most common complaints of patients when going to the doctor.

Acute low back pain accounts for over $20 billion of health care expenditures every year, and that sum does not include the indirect costs that the country is spending due to the ailment. According to recent study in the United States, fifty percent of the over-all workforce suffers from back pain every year.

Beauty Tips in Urdu

Weight Loss Tips in Urdu

Health tips For Women

In addition, ninety percent of adults in America experience back pain at least once in their lifetime. Acute back problems can make you miss work for at least three months, and even if you’ve recovered, the symptoms come back and your daily routines can be affected.

2.) How to Manage Acute Low Back Discomfort?

In dealing with acute low back pain, it is always advisable to consult a physician. You will be assessed based on your age and symptoms such as bone pain, morning stiffness and night pain.

Your physician will also inquire about symptoms such as weakness, numbness and presence of radiating pain. It is important be honest with your physician about the severity of pain, previous treatment if the back pain has occurred in the past, and the effect of the pain in your daily activities and work life.

Therapy such as pharmacologic therapy may be administered by a doctor to patients suffering from acute low back pain.

This includes administering nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) or acetaminophen. If a patient reaction to treatment is positive, it will be continued for two to four weeks unless assessed otherwise. (Always speak with your physician about pain medications prior to using them.)

A seven-day bed rest is perceived as an important treatment for acute lower back pain, but recent study shows that it does more harm than good.

The adverse effect is that it encourages a sick role on the patient. A clinical study attempts to prove this by sorting two groups of recuperating patients. One group was given two days of bed rest and the other was given a full week of bed rest.

It turned out that a two-day bed rest has the same effect as seven-day bed rest. More and more doctors are prescribing two to three days of bed rest to the person suffering from acute back pain. Rest includes having the patient lying on his or her back.

3.) Back Supports & Why They Are Effective

Another effective treatment recommended by doctors is the use of back braces or supports. Quality back braces are found to be helpful in alleviating the pressure and controlling certain destructive body movements so you will not further damage your back.

Back braces are known to effectively reduce the pain, which will bring relief to the patient.

Lower back support can help provide a kind of restriction so you can monitor your movements and develop a conscious awareness of what movements are to be avoided so you will not be able to do more damage to your back.

Many doctors have recommended the use of back brace as an alternative or support treatment for acute back pain. You must remember that in treating acute low back pain, surgery is not always necessary.

Herniated Disc Surgery

herniated disc surgery
What can you tell me about herniated disc surgery?

Elderly man has been diagnosed with at least 2 herniated discs, he is being sent to see a orthopedic surgeon, what does surgery and normal recovery include? We have been told probably not a candidate for the less invasive newer surgical method. (On top of this he has CHF and is on blood thinner because had clots in lungs).

He should not do it. I have three herniated discs as well as other more severe spinal conditions. I have three friends who had this surgery and none of them are glad they did. None experienced and benefits and one is much worse of. I have been told I am not a surgical candidate and would not have it if I was. I’ve just seen to much go wrong. I would continue living with it and he should also go to a chiropractor and have the discs put back where they belong. The ortho guys told me I would be in a chair right away ten years ago. Thanks to chiropractic I still am not. They are the ones trained to do this kind of work and they do it non-surgically. Bring him to one right away and let him have some relief. It usually only takes a couple visits. I see many, many elderly there.

herniated disc neck treatment
HELP with pain in neck and shoulders after neck surgery?

I recently had an anterior cervical diskectomy in which my C5-6 vertebrae was removed and replaced with a bone graft and pinned to the disc both above and below it, which were also damaged, herniated and degenerated. I am now having severe pain on both sides of my neck and shoulders and have been told by another dr (not my surgeon) that I am having muscle spasms but she did not ant to do any further treatments w/o another MRI of my neck to see what is going on. I am waiting on the next MRI to be done and just struggling on a daily basis and I wanted to know if anyone knew anything I can do at home to help the pain, I am at the point where lifting either arm is painful and finding it hard to do even simple things such as driving. Thanks

after my full spinal fusion i couldnt do anything for 3 months…. you just had surgery you may just need time to heal….. either that or your body may be rejecting the graft….both are possible but i wouldnt strain yourself, it may just be because you are healing still….

Herniated Disc Upper Neck

02/28/2011

I am experiencing a sharp stabbing pain in my right calf?

Over the last 3 months I am experiencing a sharp stabbing pain in my right calf. I am an active person whom works out regularly. This pain seems to be brought on by temperature and physical touch to my upper spine. for example when showering as water hits my head and spine. It also happens when driving with the window down, or putting on a coat or shirt. The last couple of days after a camping trip the pain seems to happen at will. I have had and been treated for a herniated disc. I had my physical therapist re diagnose me and there is no evidence of that injury. I have no back pain. I thought it could be a potassium deficiency so I take that daily. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and or suggestions on how to treat this. I would also like to add that my spine and neck area has no pain. the only pain is in the nerve of the lower right calf.

You probably pulled a muscle or something like that. You should probably visit a chiropractor to see if anything is pulled. Maybe go get some x-rays or something. To me it just sounds like you pulled your right calf and of course, when you put weight on it, it will hurt.

Herniated Disc Dogs

02/04/2011

herniated disc dogs

Oh, My Aching Back!

Like humans, our canine friends can suffer back pain. It is especially prevalent in small breeds like Dachshund and Lhasa apso, but bigger breeds like German Shepherds and Great Danes can also suffer. Additionally, dogs that are overweight are more likely to have back problems than their leaner counterparts.

Some back injuries involve nothing more than sore muscles. However, for others, disc injury or degenerative disc disease may be the problem. This can cause extreme pain, lost muscle control, nerve damage and paralysis.

Like man’s, a dog’s spine is made up of small bones called vertebrae. They run from the base of the skull to the end of the tail. Flexible discs made of cartilage provide a cushion between each vertebra. Above the discs and running through the vertebrae is the spinal cord made up of nerve fibers. A disc can weaken with age or trauma, causing a portion of the disc to be pushed out of place, putting pressure on the spinal column.

A dog that has suffered a disc injury will exhibit symptoms such as:

Yelping when handled

Lethargy

Shivering

Whimpering

Poor appetite

Inability to urinate

Clumsiness

Reluctance to climb steps

Walking “drunk”

Unable to move

Paralysis of back legs

To tell the difference between a simple sore muscle and disc injury, check your pet’s “placing response.” While supporting him with one hand under his belly, flip one of his hind feet so that the top of his paw is touching the ground. He should quickly place the foot right side up when you let go. If he doesn’t, he could have nerve problems. Even if he passes the test, if pain lasts more than a day or two, consult your vet. Nerve problems don’t always show up right away.

Your vet will perform diagnostic tests to differentiate disc disease from other illnesses that may cause similar symptoms. A neurological assessment could include applying gentle pressure to the spine to localize the pain. He may check to see if only the back legs are affected, or also the front legs and head. A test the toes of the back legs indicates reflex responses and indicators of pain. He may also x-ray your dog’s spine, or obtain a myelogram or CT scan.

Treatment will depend on the severity of the clinical findings. Dogs with milder injuries may be treated with cortisone injections, steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and rest. This helps shrink the herniated disc and swollen tissue and at the same time relieves inflammation that has occurred within the spinal cord. Pain medication may also be prescribed.

Surgical treatment may be recommended if the signs are severe and do not respond to other management trials.

Whether medical, surgical or a combination of the two treatments is used, it may be several weeks before your dog recovers fully. Crate care may be recommended for at least four weeks when undergoing treatment. Rest is essential to allow the disc material to “scar over”. Early return to activity may worsen your dog’s condition. Don’t let him run around the yard or go for long walks.

Don’t be fooled by what appears to be a fast return to normal behavior. Dogs treated with cortisone injections and steroid treatment, may be relieved of their pain, but the injury is still present and caution must be observed.

Don’t allow your dog to jump up or down from objects such as the bed or the groomer’s table.

When lifting your pet, never use the front legs. Instead, use both hands, supporting him from underneath the rib cage and the back legs.

When walking your dog, use a chest harness instead of attaching a leash directly to the collar. Any jerking motion or sudden movement of the head can cause pain and reinjury.

Use a glucosamine and chrondoitin supplement to help speed recovery and strengthen damaged cartilage.

Help your pet keep his weight down. Check by lightly running your hands over his ribcage. If you can count each rib, he’s at a good weight. If all you feel is padding, it’s time to try a sensible weight-loss plan.

90% of all disc problems can be successfully treated with conservative medical management. Don’t hesitate to get your dog to the vet if you suspect a back injury.
