What medication could I receive for pain resulting from Scoliosis?
I was diagnosed with Scoliosis when I was in high school. It is not severe enough to require surgery, but I have almost constant pain because of it, to the point where I often can’t sleep at night. My treatment has been abysmal. Physical therapy was hardly the answer to my pain problems, and using Advil, Tylenol, etc. is just a joke. I am considering asking my doctor for some medication that actually works, but I have heard that this often results in being “flagged” for trying to get painkillers, with me getting perhaps a recommendation for more physical therapy. I was just wondering how common it is to receive Vicodin, Percocet, etc. for this condition. I have had friends offer me painkillers, but I really don’t want to have to go the illegal route to obtain necessary medication. However, I sure can’t imagine spending the rest of my life being severely achy and sleepy because my stupid back wants to make me miserable.
This is NOT a cut and paste answer. This is from my experiences and reading, and research. It’s long but every word is my own!
I don’t think it’s inappropriate to report to him inadequate pain relief. He needs to know. I wouldn’t ask specifically for Vicodin or Perc only because docs are so freaked out because of the idiots in the “war on drugs”. The DEA are basically tying doctors’ hands. Do you allow indadequate pain relief in your hurting patient or provide solid adequate pain relief with appropriate opiate medication and run the risk of the DEA raiding the doctor’s office one day with AK-47s and seizing all your charts and your medical license. Insanity. I’m not exaggerating, This is happening and it’s only getting worse. I sound like a conspiracy theory freak with a hatred for the DEA. I’m not. I’ve been reading about this because I suffer from severe migraines and don’t receive good pain relief. I’m made to feel like an addict because I’m well informed and name specific meds and this is apparently “drug-seeking behavior”.
It may take some time and money and will cause you to be impatient with doc. He’s gotta dance the DEA dance. These are all things that I’ve been through. I’m not a doctor or anything. He will start with something harmless like a script for a NSAID (celebrex, vioxx, etc.) Then maybe on to Darvocet, it’s no better than a tylenol and just as useless. Then he may go to something like Tramadol which is more like an NSAID but has some miniscule twice-removed derivative of an opiate. Some get a mild high on this at first, God forbid. Some don’t. Some people swear by its pain relief, it’s ineffective for others. If none of these are effective there’s not much you can do that won’t be suspsicious. Suck it up, give each week or so, then let him know if they don’t work and whatever intolerable side effects you may have. Then he should go on to the FORBIDDEN opiates. LOL. This will also be a hassle until you get an effective titration dose figured out.
He may be ultra-conservative and fight you all the way. What good is 7.5 of Vicodin if he only gives you 10 of them and says take 1/2 tab every 6-8 hrs? Or, he may be a “maverick” LOL, and more generous with amts, dosages, times, etc. Any variation of these is possible, obviously you know that. If he’s just an ass, or falsely accuses you of drug-seeking or refuses to help you get adequate relief then move on. You may get lucky and he’ll be agreeable and helpful and willing to give you what you need the first time.
I think the M.D.s are going to have fight the DEA and drug laws from the inside. They are gonna have to raise hell, fight tooth and nail to be able to practice medicine as they were taught, based on patient care and feedback and be able to prescribe what they know will work. Opiates are effective, few serious side effects and studies show not as addictive as previously thought. Your body WILL become physically dependent on them if taken over a period of time for chronic pain. This is a normal effect of the med, doctors know this, it’s not permanent, it’s not bad, it’s expected. The DEA lies about the addiction rates, and o.d.’s and death rates to strike fear in people. They have no business “practicing medicine” and telling docs or patients what they can or cannot put in their bodies. Get the government out of my dr appointment and out of my medicine cabinet!
All this being said, opiates ARE abused, sold and blackmarketed and there are crooked careless doctors who shovel out dangerous drugs in exchange for money or sex or whatever. This doesn’t mean we go insane and lose all rational thinking!
Oh and Scoliosis is a painful condition, this is well known. My aunt has it and she takes oxycontin, vicodin, percocet, she knows now what’s effective for her pain and takes what she needs. Otherwise she would bed-bound.
Sorry so long and involved. I’m pissed about the delusion of the war on drugs and idiotic drug laws and ever-increasing government intrusion into our private lives! Best of luck to you!

Can Endemetreosis come back after a Hysterectomy ?
Hi, Well i suffered with endemetreosis for 14 years, I got through it but had alot of pain and discomfort, during this time I took danazol and various pills to help, but with that failing i had surgery to remove it but within 12 months it was back around my pelvis, ovaries, bowels etc.. during a time of no treatment I amazingly got pregnant and thought this was the best thing this could do the trick, I had my 1st baby which was fantastic, then within 18 months was expecting my 2nd, I am so lucky to have them both, as being told never would happen. Anyway after time the old Capital E returned and as a result I had a hysterectomy which is 3 years ago this month. I have been having HRT for 2 years, but for the last 4 months have been experiencing my old symptoms back ache, servere low abdominal pain and a stomach that looks 6 months pregnant, pelvic congestion, could it be back ???
Endometriosis has a tendency to recur but you will be need a proper diagnosis of recurrence. Pregnancy isn’t always impossible with endometriosis. It can be difficult to very difficult to impossible, depending on the severity of the condition. Pregnancy relieves the symptoms. It inhibits the growth and bleeding of the endometrial implants because ovulation and menstruation are suppressed. The excess endometrial tissue are called implants because they implant themelves on surrounding tissue and structures. This isn’t a question of “adhesions or cysts returning” as this was never your problem to begin with.
It is possible that you may require further cauterization or vaporization of additional implants. If you had a hysterectomy only without the bilateral salpino-oophorectomy, you may need this additional surgical procedure as well. The two most common areas that endometrial tissue implants itself on are the ovaries and the pouch of Douglas (cul-de-sac of Douglas), a pouch formed by the caudal portion of the parietal perineum (the membrane that lines the abdominal wall).
I trust that you’ve already reported this to your OB/Gyn. If not, do so right away. Congratulations for defying the odds and having two healthy children!

Is Your Life Ruined by Chronic or Acute Lower Back Pain?
The medical studies are alarming: during their lives, most people are affected by lower back pain. This medical condition is responsible for more incapacity and sick leave than any other is. Check out the fact:
• Eight out of ten have suffered or will suffer from this debilitating aliment
• Half of all people who experience lower back pain will have repeat attack within twelve months.
Lower back pain – Acute or Chronic?
Acute lower back pain occurs suddenly. Very often, you will know exactly what causes it: an accident that jars your back, for instance, such as fall from a chair or a ladder. Or, you may simply stumble and pitch backwards to the ground.
Whatever the cause, you will probably strain and tear the ligaments, tendons and muscles in your lower back. All of these tissues are essential to your well-being, and any trauma affecting them produces severe pain.
A particularly severe accident will cause even more serious damage. This could be a fracture in the lumbar spine, or a break in the coccyx at the base of the spinal column. The pain from such injuries can be excruciating, as some of you may already know.
The cause of chronic pain, pain that continues for a long time or constantly recurs, can be more difficult to assess. It may cause by deterioration of the discs between the spine’s vertebrae. In other words, the discs may dry out, thereby allowing pressure to be placed on the nerves that run through the spine. The result is severe lower back pain, usually known as osteoarthritis.
Others suffer when the joints of the lower back become inflamed as rheumatoid arthritis enters their body. This condition is not only chronic, it steadily progresses through the system.
Another common cause of chronic lower back pain is osteoporosis, in which the bones of the spine become brittle and fragile because of hormonal changes or vitamin deficiencies.
Other causes of lower back pain
• Spondylosis – this occurs when the disc between the vertebrae of the spine distintegrate, allowing the vertebrae to rub against each other.
• Sciatica – degeneration of the spinal discs can also cause compression of the nerve roots in the lower back, resulting in intense pain.
• Lumber spinal stenosis – pressure on the spinal cord, a consequence of damage to the fiber that houses the cord, can lead to lumbar spinal stenosis. The most noticeable physical sign of this condition is the way that suffers must stand or sit with a hunched posture to ease the appealing pain.
• Depression – for 80% of those who have lower back pain, doctors cannot determine the cause. This adds to the depression that suffers often feel because they have no understanding or control of their disorder.
The CHI institute as recognized the desperate need for a consistent form of relief for lower back pain. Institute researchers studied the available remedies and learned from the practices of many different cultures and people, including the renowned qigong healers of Beijing, China. From these experiences, the institute began developing positive therapeutic solution to the problems of Lower Back Pain in both its forms, acute and chronic.
The first of these solutions, an infrasound massage device, was a tremendous success. But the CHI institute didn’t stop there. Since pain therapy is a constantly developing field, the institute decided it was vital to continue the product evolution to find maximum pain relief.
As result of this continuing research, Sound Vitality, a division of the CHI institute, introduced the Infratonic 4.3 in 1997. This device was based on digital Chaos Therapy and proved to be a great help for anyone afflicted with the torture of lower back pain.

Anyone who has ever suffered some form of back injury has sought relief through the use of back pain medications at some point in their life. In fact back issues are one of the most common conditions that doctors see every year. If you do go to the doctor there are a number of medications he or she may prescribe to help keep the pain under control.
There is a general understanding within the medical community that pain relief is an important part of the healing process. For this reason the chances of being prescribed a drug for back pain when you visit the doctor are rather good. Part of healing from an injury of any sort involves being able to move around, even it it’s to only get out of bed for a few minutes several times a day. A degree of mobility is important to the general well being of anyone with back problems.
There are several classes of back pain medications that are in use today and these include anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s), acetaminophen, muscle relaxants, and opioids. These can be used by themselves or in combinations depending on the severity of the pain experienced and the cause of the injury.
NSAID’s are a group of anti-inflammatory drugs that include ibuprofen, aspirin, Ketoprofen, and Naproxen. These drugs have anti-inflammatory and anti swelling properties as well as being able to relieve pain and most can be gotten over the counter. Another OTC pain reliever is acetaminophen which most people know as Tylenol. Anacin-3 and Phenaphen are two other acetaminophen analgesics that can be used to reduce back pain.
Codeine and morphine are to high powered pain killers commonly known as opioids. Doctors will prescribe these for those in severe pain when the pain killer mentioned above do not work. Because opioids do present an addiction hazard they need to be used cautiously and as prescribed.
Muscle relaxants work to control muscle spasms that happen when you injure your back. The reason most people have muscle spasms when they hurt their back is because the muscles around the injured area are trying to compensate for the loss of strength at the injured spot. These spasms can be painful and by relaxing the muscles we get relief from that pain.
Reducing pain is an integral part of healing a bad back and back pain medication should be used to help achieve that goal. Pain relief comes with a caveat; just because the pain is gone does not mean the injury is healed. Far to many people further aggravate their painful back by doing to much when their pain is being controlled by their medication.

Is it true that you can go online and get narcotic drugs(such as vicodin or davocet or such) without needing a prescription. Is this legal ?
My husband has much pain in his back and neck and shoulders from the lifting requirments of working on an ambulance. He is not a drug addict, …. yet everytime he goes to the doctor they treat him like he is one.
Being on the medical card for insurance right now, ….. they are very hesitant to do really anything for him. ….. a steriod shot every now and then, … that relieve his pain for maybe a week. ……
I dont know. I’m just looking into other options of keeping him out of pain when he is having problems. We have tried everything over the counter such as IBprofin, naproxin sodium(aleave), tylonol, …. nothing really helps.
Anyways …. I dont want to be ordering stuff from these sites online only to find out that they are not legal or that they are scams.
Can anyone give me any information about them.
I feel the same way…………. no it’s not legal and even if it was it would be a big ripoff…
I suggest going to another doctor.. or ask some friends or
get some herb if your willing to have a stoned husband.

Nearly 90% of American adults suffer from back pain, and the number continues to climb. Why does this condition affect so many people in the industrialized world, while in some countries only 5% of adults report back pain? In a quest to find the root cause of back pain, Esther Gokhale studied at the Aplomb Institute in Paris and traveled to parts of the world where back pain is virtually unknown. …
A type of arthritis that causes the immune system to attack itself instead of protecting the body from various diseases is rheumatoid arthritis. It is the second most common type next to osteoarthritis and it usually begins to develop at the age of 20 to 40, but early signs of the development of this disease could begin to gradually show even at a younger age.
Once this disease worsens, the body could become frail because of the friction caused by the rubbing of the bones against each other. The cartilage serves as outer covering of the bones prevent them from rubbing against each other and with rheumatoid arthritis, the cartilage is weakened until it wears entirely.
The friction caused by the disappearance of the cartilage and the rubbing of the bones brings about unbearable pain to those suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Further, the pain could also lead to other physical disabilities, making the person with this disease unable to move properly. Though osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis is considered to be the most disabling type. Because this disease spreads easily to other parts of the body, it is extremely necessary for it to be treated as soon as the early signs begin to become apparent.
If you already have rheumatoid arthritis and have consulted your physician, he or she probably prescribed drugs that could take away the pain brought about by rheumatoid arthritis and other types of arthritis instantly. These drugs may be efficient in eliminating the arthritis pain but they could also affect the body adversely. It is not unusual for drugs to have side effects and drugs specifically made to get rid of pain caused by arthritis are no exceptions.
To be safe from harming other parts of your body and still be saved from arthritis pain, you could take various natural rheumatoid arthritis pain relief medications. These medications could include natural dietary supplements specifically designed to aid in eliminating pain brought about by arthritis. By taking in these medications regularly, your joins will be healthy and your cartilage will be prevented from wearing out due to either aging or overuse.

What home remedies can help a person coming off of prescribed pain medication?
In March of 2007 I was put on a narcotic pain medication following a surgery on my back. Now my doctors want me off the medication starting next week. I know how bad it felt when I missed one pill. Is there anything I can do to ease the pain of withdrawl or is it simply go cold turkey and deal with it?
I have just gone through pain killer withdrawl again, because of a long hospital stay with Morphine every few hours. So I know excatly what you mean about feeling bad missing just one pill.
I recommend as a nurse and being in your position not to go cold turkey, even though it has only been 3 months. Your body will be craving it and it’s not pleasant.
Talk honestly and openly with your Doctor that you want what’s best for you with this withdrawl and would like his help with it. Ask that he gives you support and a medication that will allow you to withdrawl slowly, such as a lower dose of what you are currently on, or something to ease withdrawl symptoms.
Being straight with your Doctor really helps.
There are things you can do to help though ease withdrawls if you experience them or decide to go cold turkey.
Such as having many showers to trick your body when going through chills. It also helps ease muscle pain and cramps.
Getting up and walking around to stop the anxiety and cramps again.
Getting a massage, any excuse will do, to ease anxiety, restlessness and pain again.
Then there is Catapres (Clonadine) which eases withdrawl symptoms. And Valium or Serapax for night time to help your body rest and sleep.
The 1st 4 days are the worst honestly. I wish people had been honest the first time I went through this. But after those 4 days you start to feel really good again fairly quickly. 7 or 8 days later you feel so alive. It’s a really odd feeling but you will know what I’m talking about in the end of it.
Good luck with it. Message me if you have any questions or need some support.
I hope it goes well for you. Be strong. It’s worth it.
