Good exercise for someone with bad lower back pain?

I have dealt with severe pain in the lower back for approximately one year. I've been the documentation, RM, tried physical therapy (not help much) and the pain too (but do not take every day … The last thing I need is to become a drug addict. lol). The only thing I have done all that seems to help is acupuncture. Ive done about a month and there is a lot of improvements … Only is captured, I have improved as I do not EXERCISE. What worries me because I put a lot of weight last year and can not lose b / c even the slightest exercise makes the pain away. I know I need to exercise due to my doc and two accupuncturist I need to strengthen the muscles in my back … but how I can exercise when it kills, then I go for a walk 10 minutes? Besides, I do not want to question the exercise of the waters that do not feel comfortable in a bath test in front of people at this time. Someone he knows nothing good, gentle exercise to help strengthen the lower back?

I was in an accident about three weeks, the resulting damage me put in physical therapy several times weekly. I had an aggravation of back pain, especially during the last week. The therapist told me that my pelvis shifted to the right during the accident and tried to say what kind of handle in place. Or is there anything else I can do to correct this since the pain has worsened and even more unpleasant for me and my husband to have sex.

The last option is surgery. This is definitely the final option if stretching and exercises do not work. Any type of surgery comes with risks so it’s important to be certain that it’s the only choice that is left. Lower back pain treatment is all about alleviating the discomfort you feel in the back which can be the most uncomfortable and annoying back problem. If stretching and exercising do not work something more drastic such as surgery may be your best option.

I fractured my ankle and tore a ligament on October 3. I have pain in the back of my foot and when I turn it..?

I fractured my ankle on October 3. I was in a cast for 2 months. I got the cast off December 2. Started physical therapy 4 days later. I have been doing physical therapy. I do the simple exercises every day and twice a week I do the full exercises. However, I get this pain in the back of my foot (where my Achilles Tendon is) and a bit on the inner side of my foot. I have to move my foot/ankle in a circular motion until it cracks and then the pain goes away. About 2-3 minutes later, the pain is back and the cycle begins again. Why? I am doing good with physical therapy. I broke my left foot, lower fibula (the ankle). It happened while playing soccer. I am a 12-15 year old female. The doctor said that it is just kinks in the ligaments from being stiff and should go away within a week or two after getting the cast off. Why is this happening? Please!

sounds like you need a new xray and mri, at your age it should have went away by now, if you are having to pop your ankle to make it stop then the tendons and ligaments are not holding it where they should, they need to get stronger, maybe some strengthening exercises for the ankle would help also

Does Physical Therapy Help Lower Back Pain?

I have lower back pain and my doctor has told me I need physical therapy. Both my mother and my father in law have had physical therapy for their lower back pain and said it made them hurt worse.

Has physical therapy helped anyone else with lower back pain? What kind of exercises do they have you do? I have Multiple Sclerosis and going through a “flare up” with it right now (I am hardly able to walk, bend, move my hands/arms…hell I can’t even dress myself). I am not sure if I will even be able to do the exercises.

well i am a physical therapist and to tell you the truth, it’s crap shoot. if it’s chronic back pain, it’s difficult to cure. lots of therapists do not know how to treat it correctly, but at the same time, there are a lot of therapists who do know how to treat back pain correctly. you just have to find the right one. so don’t go to the one that your parents went to. i would give a therapist 3 sessions tops. if the pain is worse after the first treatment, tell him/her that it is worse (don’t just quit the place). see if the therapist could make adjustments to the treatment plan. if after another 2 sessions, if you don’t see a change or if it’s worse, you have to then find another therapist (even if the therapist is super cool).

unfortunately, heat is a great way to relax the back and help get rid of the pain. of course heat could exacerbate your MS. that is what i would normally recommend but not to you. local heat treatment might be okay, but not totally sure. right now, you might benefit from actually being admitted to a hospital so that a pain management doctor could may be prescribe you something for your low back pain. but at the same time, the hospital has super soft beds (to prevent bed sores) so that might exacerbate your back pain.

if you do go to the hospital, be wary of the therapists at the hospital since they usually do not know how to treat low back pain very well. but of course, i work in the hospital and i have good understanding of back pain. so maybe you’ll get lucky. therapists in the hospital are familiar with MS so perhaps they might have good suggestions for you.

if you don’t go to a hospital, you could have a home health physical therapist come to your home. you might want to ask your doctor about a therapist coming to your house.

but right now, positioning might be the only thing you can do to try to relieve back pain. i’m thinking that you’re pretty much bed bound right now. being in one position for a long time could exacerbate some back pain (not all back pain act the same). some people with low back pain prefer to sleep on a recliner. beds are very important in controlling back pain; if you have an old one or one that you are uncomfortable in, i suggest you get one that is comfortable. but don’t just lay in bed; find a comfortable chair to sit in some times.

later, when your MS has calmed down, you might consider pool or aqua therapy. i would ask a therapist in an out patient setting about it. yoga is also known to help many people’s low back pain.

i’m really sorry for what you’re going through. i don’t know if i helped you any, but good luck with getting rid of your back pain.
