medical person: is this nerve or artery problem? i asked earlier and some think nerve instead of artery?

about 2 years ago, I was drying my hair w/ a towel and had a sudden sharp pain in my lower neck by my right shoulder. The pain shot up my neck to the right middle part of the back of my head. It felt as if it went up, to the right and then branched out like tree roots. Like all the blood was instantly sucked out. It knocked me to the ground for about 60 seconds. I didn’t have health insurance (full-time student, part-time worker) at the time. The back of my head hurt for awhile, but has gotten better. Now, when I sleep in a certain position for too long, or carry heavy equipment, it hurts the back of my head in the “tree roots” spot. Is this something to be concerned about? I worked in a 1-hr photo lab, and the day after it happned I tried to lift the 30-lb paper magazine over my head onto the printer, and I dropped it, b/c of the massive pain to the spot in the back of my head. It seems it was caused by that repeated motion several times/day at work. Will the pain go away?

You say you didn’t have health insurance at the time.If you do have insurance now, you should really got to a doctor.I’m no doctor,but it sounds like a pinched nerve in the shoulder or neck.Don’t wait to long,or it may become chronic and impair you from working.It could also be bursitis .What is bursitis?

Can someone recommend some good ab exercises for someone who hates to do abs?

I work out 4-5 days a week doing the elliptical and lifting free weights. I have lost enough weight where I should start doing ab exercises. I have always hated doing sit ups and crunches as they have always hurt my lower back. Can some one recommend either machines or normal exercises that our mostly pain free

Back pain after golf?

I just started to come into golf. Me and my friend to play the balls to see how we can achieve. But more often left back hurts very bad, even where it can not swing. I think it's because I'm not swing right, or too hard? Can anyone help?

You need to warm and relax the back muscles before hitting the balls. Sure you do at least 10 minutes of exercise that dates back to before choosing a club. Why is there pain in my lower back while doing ab exercise, is this normal?

I still have lower back pain. I have done crunches on the floor and off while using gym equipment and still I have pain in my lower back.

Also I did some leg lifts were you balance yourself using your forearms and lift your legs up using the lower abs. But I didn’t feel my abs working just the upper muscles in my back.

Will I feel it eventually?

Like someone said already, it wouldn’t hurt to exercise your lower back as well, just to give it a little more strength and endurance. Your lower back muscles serve as the antagonist muscles to your abs, meaning they work in contrast to your ab muscles. So, when you get to the end of the concentric (actual lifting) part of your sit up, your lower back muscles actually halt your movement. You may not realize it, but they’re doing some work too when you do sit ups. If your doing elevated leg lifts, you are using your upper body and upper extremities to hold and stabilize yourself. Your upper body muscles are most likely just getting fatigued from having to hold and stabilize all of your body weight. That is quite common.

What type of Pain Medications can I buy in person over the counter in Canada?

I’m a thirty eight year old male with lower back pain. I operate heavy equipment for a living and I’m a fourteen year volunteer EMT-B for a local Ambulance service.
For several months I have been dealing with this chronic pain and I cannot fit therapy into my schedule during the week. I teach skiing on the weekends to children however I might have to give it all up.
My closest friends give me their own type I & II pain meds when I ask only when needed. I recently had a MRI which stated mild degenerative disk change at L2-3 and L4-5 with minimal disk bulge at L4-5.
How do I convince my very young PA to write me my own prescription without feeling like I’m asking for the world? Do I have any othere options? Any old timer doc’s out there?

since you have already gone an mri which showed degenerative disk change, the best option is to go check with your doctor.. pain medications esp OTC ones will only give partial relief and there will be a time that you will come to tolerate them.. a doctor can prescribe better pain medications..

best way to get back in shape?

I want to get back in shape ive got all summer to do it. i want to work my whole body into shape im 16 and still semi fit from weight lifting gym last year can bench about 150 lbs and leg lift about 250 lbs but ive put on some wieght mainly to my stomach and thighs and im willing to face a good deal of pain to get rid of it i have a pool i can swim laps in. about 30 ft long . im a male and 185 lbs and about 5’7″ since i think that makes a difference i dont have acces to wight lifting equipment except for my 20 lb arm curl bars (cant think of the real name) I would really like suggestions on # of sets and reps of what type of exercises i should do what i should eat and how much to eat . thanks for the help i really appreciate it. would like to keep exercise time around 1-2 hours a day at most but if i need to do more time than that i will
