1. Traction. Get a head strap and stretch the area once a day and before bed.
2. Vitamin C. 10,000mg daily of vitamin C will accelerate the formation of cartilage which will partially repair the disk damage.
3. Take some of the standard arthritis vitamins (glucosamine, chondroitin, etc etc etc because the vertebrae is a joint also and these vitamins will assist healing. Basically anything good for joints is good for the damaged disk.
4. Take some natural anti-inflamatories like curcumin etc. Avoid foods that inflame, like sugar.
5. Loose weight and this will take pressure off the disk.
6. Get a bar and start doing twists every day. If you hold the bar horizontal and then twist at the waist, allow your head to follow the twisting motion and look as far as possible to the right and then reverse the motion and look to to the left as far as possible. This will stretch the neck sinews taking pressure off.

Having lived with chronic back pain for many years, I would say is always better to err on the side of the caution I want to see your doctor and get his back looked. You may have a pinched nerve or it could be a herniated disc. Laying on a surface treated flat and lasts for a while. Sometimes I use heat pads / hot water bottles to relieve pain. 7 years ago, I let a friend rub my back because I had a back ache, the next day I could hardly walk from the pain I was in. It turns out she had herniated 1 discs in my lower back. I have had pain that has become chronic pain now for 7 years. I take alot of pain meds everyday because I have sooooo much pain, I can hardly move in the morning when I wake up. I just had another MRI done (7 years later, after the first) and found out that I now have 6 herniated discs. I suffer everyday and cant imagine living the rest of my life with this pain and the pain pills, so I have taken steps to learn to manage my pain better with classes in pain management. But that is not a cure all, and I wanted some feed back on back surgery. Thanks

and with a pinched nerve which destroyed the muscles in my left leg.It took 2 years to build it back up.
My Neuorosurgeon says there is nothing he can do in the way of an operation.However he recommended a pain killer called Gabapentin(300mg),which I have used for over 3 years with great pain relief.However,I also still use a Therapist and Chiropractor on occassions if the disability gets worse.
Like you the morning,when I arise ,is my worst time but as I move around it seems to lessen.At times I do not look forward to going to bed,but rest is also important.

What about Physical Therapy? TENS unit? Massage therapy? ESI (epidural steroid injection)? Nerve blocks? How many different types of pain medication the doctor treated? In just three months, I can not imagine that all options for pain medications have been tried. A doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory? Long-acting narcotic analgesics? Short-acting narcotic pain relievers? Anticonvulsants or antidepressants? (We are working to relieve nerve pain related) muscle relaxants? What about combinations of drugs? Many patients with chronic pain take a combination of long-acting, short acting muscle relaxant, nerve pain and anti-inflammatory drugs. Types of drugs in the combination depends on type of pain and the source of pain, but I never met a patient with chronic pain takes a single drug. If your doctor has tried drugs narcotic analgesics – Not the doctor to try different medications? Several drugs (long years of short-acting) that have different basic drugs in them. Medications essential are morphine, oxycodone, oxymorphone, hydromorphone, hydrocodone, fentanyl and methadone.Most of these essential medicines are in short form and a form of action scting long, and many patients with chronic pain have to try several different drugs that act at different doses before finding one that works well for them – and I usually try different short-acting medications to see which of these work best for them. What types of specialists (doctors) do not see your husband? It met with a pain specialist again? A doctor of pain can offer different treatments, and because they specialize in pain management are the best provider for go to any and all types of chronic pain. Three months is a long time when you are in pain, but little time considering the number of treatments and medications that are available to try – 3 months, is not nearly enough time to try many things. So three months is not much time to see if the things you've ever tried (the injections and chiropractic) still worked. It can sometimes take several cortisone injections before the pain allows sustainable (so that the injections are often performed in a series). You can also take several weeks (sometimes up to 6 months) before the full effect of chiropractic treatment of pain will be felt. I know it is very difficult be in pain and little (if any) help, but often requires much trial and error (and time) to find the exact treatment that will provide each patient with the relief Adequate pain. I suggest going to a pain specialist, trying different drugs in different combinations and give other treatments to treat (and given time to work effectively). Good luck!

I am in need of medical care … recent back surgery … Please!?
At the end of May, I had back surgery to partially remove a herniated disc in L4 (discectomy and laminectomy), and he was beaten and transverse moving my L4 nerve roots (which falls right leg). I experienced back pain, pain in the right leg and nerve pain. Now, almost four months later, the problem is reoccuring. In a post-surgery MRI I had on 8 August, the hernia scar tissue is back surgery and excess is compounding the problem. After my doc undermines my problem and my pain. This does not helps me to control my pain worse. I received a medication and told me to 'stretch' which is much more than the necessary dosage information. What I do? He knows everything and talk about the MRI .. all that is an apt epidural. Thursday. I need pain relief … sucks! Any suggestions on how handle this situation? I am very frustrated and confused. I have tried very frustrated with a husband with a similar problem. His surgery was almost 3 years. His pain returned last month and a half ago. It took three weeks to see the doctor who did the surgery because he had changed his practice to a new dh was considered a new patient. At the same time, we went to gp to get some relief of pain was votrian and ultram and an injection of cortisone. It helped some, but was still in much pain. When we saw the sunrise, ordered the epidural. He also gave a script for Lodine, which is an NSAID. The ultram was more for the pain that. We finally got an appointment for an epidural (long story). Two days later, was much, much better, do not forget how they will work until a few days later. Maybe you get the same relief that he did.

I need a doctor to prescribe percocet for chronic back pain. I live in Vero Beach FL. Any suggestions?
I have coped with chronic back pain for over 2 years, missed alot of work. Took alot of aleve but for some reason I had an allergic reaction to aleve and now can no longer take them. Tylonol does nothing for me. I recently had an outpatient surgery and the doctor perscribed percocet for the recovery. I was at work the next day. No one could beleave I just had surgery. I felt like a normal person. I went to my sons football game. I could never set on the bleachers before. Unfortunitly the perscription gone. I stretched the dosage out from 7 days worth to 12 by not taking the full amout perscribed. I’ve seen 4 doctors since to try to get a script for this medication. No one will perscribe any pain meds. I don’t understand why doctors write the script. Anyone know a doctor who will take a chance with me. I will be monitored as often as nessisary. I just got a glempse of what it feels like to be normal and enjoy my family. Now it’s gone. Can anyone give information?
It is unlikely you will be prescribed a narcotic for chronic back pain. Doctors are quite reluctant to do this, as narcotic prescriptions are watched quite closely by the DEA. Also, if you took percocet on a regular basis, such as over a period of several months, you would almost surely develop a physical dependance on it, as the active ingredient, oxycodone, is highly addictive.
The only way to get a narcotic prescription is to convince your doctor that the pain is severe enough to warrant one. You might also try to combat the source of the pain. It’s a bit of a headache, but seeing a chiropracter or trying some topical analgesics might be a good idea as well.
But you’d be best to abandon hope for getting a routine prescription for percocet. It’s unlikely a doctor will give you that.
You could also ask about an opioid with a lower risk of dependence, such as Tramadol.
