Question about sciatica?
I have a severe attack of sciatica, this is my second time, the first time was in 2006. The pain radiates down the right leg. I'm on Vicoden, Soma, and a dose of short-term (one week) of methylprednisolone three days now. In 2006, I responded to steroids within 24 hours, but not this time. Yesterday I had to go to Target to get a heating pad, the pain was very mild and I was able to walk. But last night the pain became unbearable again. At present, the pain is moderate, I think because I'm medicated and heat on my back, but drugs are not really help the pain. Is there anything you do to aggravate the condition? Do can sit on a chair or should be fixed? Is there anything else I can do to ease the pain. I do not want to go to the emergency room again because I do not think there is much that can do. I would appreciate any tips or advice.
Candice, I'll give you some range of motion exercises to do, but please remember that if increased pain, then stop! I would also say that the therapist would be a better way to go than just taking drugs. Remember that drugs do nothing to change or modify the condition underlying. All they do is reduce the amount of pain you feel. I can only get in a world of trouble. Sit in a chair in the kitchen and lift the left arm as high as you can and relax.
