Cervical Herniated Disc Neck

cervical herniated disc neck
Has any one had surgery for a herniated cervical disc…………?

and if so, do you have any chronic pain in your neck/arm. It has been two years since my surgery and I’m still having pain, wondering if it will get better.

I had 2 cervical discs fused (laminectomy) in 97-had to because I was losing my ability to grip as well as lots of pain radiating down my arms, especially the right one. After about 2 years the pain started to return and my doctor told me that wasn’t unusual and that I’d developed post-surgical stenosis (the bone actually re-grew and began pinching the nerves again). I have a lot of pain now, mostly in my neck, and have recentlly had xrays done but no follow up yet- I would suspect that the only thing that can be done is surgical removal of the over-growth. There is a treatment being used in some places in which a traction type machine is used and it supposedly has good results BUT most insurance doesn’t cover it yet, since it’s relatively new, and it’s rather expensive. If I had coverage I’d definitely try it. Check your local chiropractors for more info on that. It’s called a 3D Active Trac Table for non-surgical disc decompression. Good luck!

herniated disc neck shoulder pain
herniated disc in neck?

I have 17 years and am currently on my swim team at school. It all started with a line of numbness the left side of neck and overtime, the pain became more severe and insensitivity has been extended. between the shoulder blades was extremely painful and father also slightly lower was poor. My left shoulder was bad, especially when I swim, but what swimming. When I tilt my head all the way to the left side of my neck hurts, but right not. My mother thinks I have a herniated disc in his neck. Do you think it is? go to my chiropractor on Wednesday. Today I could not finish practice, because and now it hurts so much worse. is numb and the pain is worse.

Doc get away. Keep the neck as still as possible, it is possible that damage more serious could be permanent. Go now!

Herniated Disc Cervical Spine Causes

05/12/2011

could be arthritis in my spine and herniated disk can cause confusion?

I have 20 years and I have three very slight herniated disc 2 in my cervical spine and1 thoractic in my spine. I have arthritis throughout my entire spine, but over in my cervical spine. The problem goes all the way to the top of my head. I found the problem causing me to have fast and light twitching, shaking his head and neck. Could this problem makes it difficult to find words, or moments of confusion? Brian and I had the MRI came back normal. I think the problem was caused by an injury in football a couple of minor years ago.

I would think that the fact because I suffer from arthritis, even (in my spine and have all problems fixed disk surgery) and I have trouble finding the words and moments of confusion. But I'm older than you and I just thought it was "public" as it seems that everything is in question. But frankly, if the spinal cord is involved, which could well be in the case of a herniated disc, you may have these problems. If you still is not, I would like to see a neurologist. Good luck!

Herniated Disc Exercises For Neck

herniated disc exercises for neck
How I can stop feeling sorry for myself?

I started to feel pain in my neck five years ago, it took a lot doctor visits to finally get the bottom of things. I had herniated discs, so I had surgery in October 2007. Surgery has been in the fuse C5 / 6 in my spine. Unfortunately, surgery does not make me feel better, only worse. I am not able to work and what they apply for disability. I therapy physical, injections and massages, but nothing makes the pain go away. Muscles are in spasm and the pain spreads steadily in the back. I keep trying to do exercise, but it hurts and I have no balance. I'm locked in the house in the coldest part of the country. I have used antidepressants, but do nothing for myself. tablets against pain does nothing, anti-inflammatory drugs, muscle relaxants, without assistance. I keep looking for things to occupy me. I have no health insurance. I'm sorry for me and not good. What I can do?

It may be that surgeons failed operation. I suggest you try to find a lawyer willing to work urgently on to attend a judicial solution. So, if your claim is successful, you can use these funds to find an appropriate medical center and its efforts to restart relieve pain.

Herniated Disc: At Home Indicators of Disc Herniation

Most disc injuries occur in the neck and lower back and occur in the mid back occur much less often. Disc injuries often cause pain radiating into an extremity. The herniated disc of the neck (cervical spine) pinch nerves that radiate pain into the arms often into the hands and to the upper mid back. Injured discs of the lower back (lumbar spine) cause pain in the lower back and radiate into the leg often to the toes.  Herniated disc in the lower back often cause leg pain without any lower back pain.  Ninety percent of the time when you have radiating leg pain below the knee it is related to a compressed disc of the lumbar spine.

Three at home lower back tests you can do to indicate if a herniated disc is causing your pain are:

Slump Test – Sit on a chair. Then slump your shoulder forward and let your lower back curve toward the back. Then raise one or both of your legs straight out in front of you. If you have radiating pain in the leg you probably have a lower back herniated disc.

Leg Raise Test – Lay on the floor flat of your back. Keep both legs straight and raise both heels off the floor about 6 inches.  If you have radiating pain into a leg or legs or you are unable to hold your legs up you probably have a lower back herniated disc.

Leg Traction Test – While lying flat on your back have someone pull slowly and but firmly on your leg from the ankle and foot. If your lower back or leg pain lessens you probably have a herniated disc and traction would be a good treatment.

Two tests to help you understand if you have a herniated disc in the neck are:

Upper Limb Nerve Tension Test – While sitting raise your upper arm until it is horizontal to the floor and your forearm pointed straight up toward the ceiling.  Then tilt your wrist back. While your wrist is tilted backwards extend your arm straight and then push your straighten arm backwards. If this test causes pain radiating into your extended arm then you probably have a herniated disc in your neck.

Cervical Traction Test – While sitting, place your hands over your ears, then gently lift up on your head, and apply traction to the neck. If your pain diminishes spinal decompression would probably be a good treatment intervention.

Diagnostic imaging is necessary to be absolutely positive you have a disc protrusion.  MRI of the neck or lower back is best because it not only gives detail of the bone but also the soft tissues of nerve and disc with no x-ray exposure. CT scan also allows you to see a disc protrusion. CT scans are also best for detail of bone and not so good for soft tissue. CT scans are usually less expensive and use x-ray to produce the image. In my opinion MRI is clearly the first and overall best choice to image a herniated disc.

Cervical Herniated Disc

cervical herniated disc
Terrible neck and arm pain could this be a cervical herniated disc?

I am in acute pain with a terrily blocked neck and very painful arms: in spite of physio over the last month and treatment with nsaids the pain is getting worse. I have an inverted cervical spinal section that has compensated for serious lumber problems-I had past surgery for lumber herniated discs. The pain is really bad I am booked in for mri scan and orthopaedic examination but in meantime could do with advice as I just dont know what to do.I have an 11 month old baby and looking after her is becoming atrociously painful. Any help would be gratefully recieved. Thank you so much

I would try to bump up the MRI and visit with your spine surgeon if needed. Sometimes asking for a Medrol steroid dose pack can be beneficial, but not if you’re breast feeding. It sounds like you have a serious spinal disease, may have stenosis or herniated disc pusing on the cervical nerves or spinal cord – I would NOT do anymore PT. Do NOT see a chiropractor before seeing your spine surgeon, especially if you have problems with the cervical spine. Chiropractic adjustments can be good things, but not if you have major problems – they can sometimes do more harm than good if you have bony disease.
Keep on the NSAIDs if able, 600-800mg ibuprofen 3x day, rest and don’t do anything that hurts. I know it’s hard with a little one. There’s always the ER too if really bad.

Herniated Disc Causes Cervical

12/14/2010

can a herniated cervical disc cause trouble swallowing or breathing and chest pains?

my heart has been checked… it’s perfect… my stomach and throat have been checked… they’re good too. the doctor seems to believe i have a herniated disc in my neck… i have a history of them in my lumbar spine. sometimes i feel like someone is squeezing my neck and its hard to breath or swallow… and i get chest pains, but they radiate more towards the back between my shoulder blades.. please dont tell me to call my doctor because i already have… he’s very well aware of my issues. i’m just looking for someone that may have had the same problem or heard of it.

Of course you should continue to work with your doctor and perhaps a specialist if referred. However, you can also google (or yahoo) search engines to read about typical symptoms for herniated cervical discs.

Cervical Herniated Disc Neck Surgery

cervical herniated disc neck surgery
degenerative disc disease & herniated cervical disc — tratements ?

I have both of these conditions as well as spinal stenosis. I had lower back surgery last October but still have considerable soreness and stiffness in my lower back. I have now been told I have 2 herniated disc in my neck as well as severve DDD.
I have had pain and numbness in my neck shoulder and arm for years, but recently noticed a reduction of strength in my arm.

Is there any treatment that can help restore the strength to my arm? My dr. wants me to have injections, but if they’re just for the pain I don’t feel the need. I work a physical factory job and need my strength to perform my duties–this is my major concern.
Does anyone have any information concerning disability if I can no longer do my job? I’ve been ther 18 years and have no idea what steps I should take.
i am near indianapolis, IN if you have any suggestions

It sounds like the problems you are having are work related. You have to consult your doctor again and discuss with him your concerns about disability claims, etc. I am not very familiar with US disability procedures, but from what I have transcribed from some of our US clients in the past, there are doctors that assess for disability issues. I believe these are Worker’s Compensation issues and benefits. They are the ones who will give you prescriptions and managements for your disc concerns. They would help you a lot.

They MIGHT advise you to have a regular visit to the rehabilitation facility (physical therapy sessions). It is really imperative that you consult with health professionals because what you have, if left unmanaged, would be debilitating for you in the future. We don’t want that.

You can consult a Worker’s Comp lawyer in your area to help, too.
